First draft of final film

This is the first draft of our final film. After making this we edited it more to create our final piece. We decided not to use this one because the titles were wrong and needed a lot of editing. Firstly they were too slow, they took up time and it creates a more dramatic effect when they're fast. We also didn't say the character's names, only the actor's. Thirdly we forget to put credits in, such as the writer or producer. In the final piece we'll put these over the film because we don't have time to add them to the end.

Still images from filming

This is Aaron playing the character of Charlie. We wanted to portray Charlie as quite cocky and confident, so we used a close up shot of his computer screen to show a picture of himself as the background, we then used a medium close up to show his smug facial expressions and dancing. The picture to the left shows Charlie's first costume, we decided to change from this because we decided it was too formal. we wanted a more youthful shirt to show Charlie was fashionable, like the one above.

This is a picture of Rachel on set playing Katie. We decided to constantly show her using a medium close up shot to reflect how vain her character was, and enhanced this by using an over the shoulder shot to get an image of her reflection in the mirror. We also used MCUs to create an air of mystery as the viewer can't see what the rest of the room contains.

These or two images we later realized we couldn't use because the camera had reflected in the objects surfaces.
In the tap you could see Ryan holding the camera, and in the Blackberry you can see the camera being reflected. These would of ruined the naturalism of the footage and lessened the tension.

Outtakes from filming

These are various shots from filming that we couldn't use for different reasons. Some are out of focus, others are too blurry. The shot of the phone whilst charlie is texting we didn't use because the majority of the group thought it was too blurry, i however thought the technique worked well is it created mystery and tension, and sped it so we could fit more into our tight 2 minute time limit, but at the same time wasn't so fast people couldn't read the text.

First attempt at film

This is the first draft of our film. We couldn't use for various reasons. The camera was too shakey in some of the shots and you could hear the actors talking out of character. We also hadn't out titles into this film, a necessary part of the process.

Different cameras

We originally used Ryan's iPhone to film with but after watching our first attempts at filming found it was too shaky due to our lack of stand. We decided not to use it as although it gives a more realist effect it footage was slightly too shaky to see what was happening clearly.

For the second attempt we used a hand held camera because we had a tripod to rest it on, therefore getting rid of the shaky effect that ruined the film. Unfortunately the camera wasn't as good as the iPhone's but the quality was good enough to see the footage clearly, and we decided it was more important to not have the film shaking.

Titles

We decided to use the third title as the typing was similar to texting on a phone, an important part of our film. It also uses the convention of making it look like someone is using a typewriter, but modernizes it by using a more up to date font that is suitable for our film as it is set in the present day.

Animatic storyboard

The animatic is roughly how I imagined the film to be. Unfortunately, we found it would not be feasible from a practical perspective to incorporate the establishing shot we had planned, given the limitations in terms of the time available to us. We used a larger variety of shots, interspersed with quicker cuts. In the animatic the girl is shown in her bedroom, but in the film we had her getting ready in the bathroom instead to give a wider variety of locations and make the film more interesting. We had to change a few scenes to make them longer to fill the 2 minutes.

Filming schedule - Not done. Why: Due to other commitments and the actors being from other collages it was impossible to plan in advance where the group would be in the small windows of time we had for filming, therefore a filming schedule was difficult and pointless.

Due to our actors changing throughout the process of film making i could not get shots of bedrooms to film in because we were planning to use the bedrooms of our actors.

This was our final film treatment. At the time it didn't contain the whole cast list, but in the end we ended up only using three people so the rest of the cast list became irrelevant as we only needed the first 4 characters, one of whom wasn't even shown in the film.
However everything else was relevant and we used this film treatment as it had our whole synopsis.

This is our second attempt at a film treatment. We improved the treatment hugely from the first one, but at this point we were still undecided about exactly how the film would end so the synopsis is incomplete.

Title – Isolation

Overview – The film shows what happens to students who

Outline – 3 main people, all go to the same school and in the same year and are all friends. All going out on a Friday night but one gets killed. We don’t know who the killer is at the beginning until the end were we find out the killer is someone who is been excluded from the group of 3.



Location – based in a estate were the 3 character live, then in the 3 characters houses (London)

This was our first attempt at a film treatment. At the time we weren't entirely sure what we were doing so it lacks in detail and would have been in-accurate as we changed the plot of our film.
